Apple AirTag is a Bluetooth Low Energy tracker designed for finding misplaced items β keys, bags, luggage. It works by broadcasting a signal that nearby iPhones anonymously relay back to your Find My app, so you can see an approximate location on a map.
When your dog goes missing, the AirTag's location only updates if an iPhone happens to walk past your pet. In a quiet park or rural area, that could take hours. And when a kind stranger picks up your dog, they cannot see your phone number, your name, or any way to contact you β the AirTag gives them nothing.
Taggzi is a digital pet ID system. The NFC chip in the tag stores a link β when anyone taps it with their phone (or scans the QR code printed on the back), they land instantly on your pet's profile showing:
No app required for the finder. Works on any iPhone or Android. Works offline via QR code. Works anywhere in the world.
Yes β and some owners do. AirTag on the harness for location tracking; Taggzi on the collar for instant finder identification. If your dog escapes, the AirTag helps you search; if a neighbour finds your dog before you do, Taggzi gets them home.
But if you have to choose one: UK law requires dogs to wear a collar with the owner's name and address when in a public place. An AirTag does not satisfy that requirement. A Taggzi does.
Does AirTag work with Android?
No. Apple's Find My network is iPhone-only. A finder with an Android handset cannot interact with an AirTag. Taggzi works on any phone with NFC or a camera.
What happens if the battery dies on an AirTag?
The tag stops broadcasting entirely β it becomes invisible to Find My and useless as an identifier. Taggzi has no battery; the NFC chip is powered by the reader's radio field and never runs out.
Is Taggzi a GPS tracker?
No. Taggzi does not track location. It is an identification system β it helps whoever finds your pet contact you. For live GPS tracking, look at dedicated pet GPS collars (Tractive, Jiobit, etc.) β Taggzi and a GPS collar complement each other well.
